Welcome to Your Union

Mary I Students' Union (MISU) is the representative body for the students of Mary Immaculate College (MIC). MISU is here to provide support, advice, and representation for its members, the students of MIC. MIC has approximately 4,500 students who are based across two campuses; Limerick and Thurles.

Students automatically become members of MISU upon enrolment and MISU is accountable to the students whom it represents.

The student body is represented by a democratically elected Executive Committee who oversee and deliver the Representation, Advocacy & Leadership function of MISU.

MISU's Services, Operations & Finances are overseen by the General Manager who is supported by a team of staff.

The Students' Union staff work alongside the Sabbatical Officers to provide them with support and advice as well as maintain continuity within the Union. The staff have different, defined roles, but essentially, they work as a team in organising events, sorting out problems, and getting things done.

Union Council (UC) meets every two weeks and consists of all the Class Representatives (Reps) and members of the SU Executive Committee, although it is open to all students to attend.

Union Council and Class Reps play a key role in the work of MISU; through Union Council, Class Reps raise any issues which their class is experiencing, give feedback or put forward ideas. Class Reps can mandate the Exec to follow through on what happens at Council or take a certain stance on an issue to make sure they are working for the students.

Thurles Class Reps are required to meet with the Thurles College Officer on the Thurles Campus a week prior to Union Council meetings. These meetings are known as the Thurles Campus Class Rep Committee. This forum allows for Class Reps to bring forward any issues or concerns they are having on the Thurles campus as well as to bring forward ideas and provide feedback to MISU.

Union Council meetings will take place both in-person and via zoom with the link being emailed to Class Reps prior to the meeting. If you are not a Class Rep but would like to join the meeting, you can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

How do I become a member of the Union Council?

In order to become a member of the Union Council then you need to be elected as your Class Rep. As the Students’ Union has around 4,500 students to represent across two campuses and the exec won’t get to talk to each person individually, class reps are elected, by their class through a vote, as the link between their class and the Exec.
