What's it all about?

The Students’ Union functions as an autonomous entity tasked with representing its members and advocating for their rights within MIC, and beyond. Each student becomes a member of the Students’ Union upon enrollment at MIC, entitling them to access all Union services. These services encompass welfare and education advice, as well as amenities like the Students’ Union Shop. Additionally, the Students’ Union serves as the voice of students on college committees and collaborates with the college to address student concerns. Student Union officers advocate for students' interests from orientation to graduation.

The Student Officer team comprises, three full-time officers and several part-time officers, who are elected annually by the students of MIC. They are responsible for providing information and guidance on various aspects of student life, including academic matters, accommodation, and equality issues.

Why should I VOTE in MISU By-Elections?

MISU is YOUR UNION, YOU have the say in WHO represents YOU. We encourage all students to exercise their right to vote.

YOU have a say in WHO represents YOU

How will I decide to who I should give my VOTE?

We encourage all MIC Students to read Candidate Manifestos carefully, we also encourage students to put forward questions at the Candidate Q&A, this is where you can ask questions that may not be answered in their Manifestos.

Voting in the Student Officer Elections is done through an online system and is in the format of a 'Single Transferable Vote'.

How does the counting of the votes work, and can I watch it?

The counting of the votes will take place online at 6:30 pm on MS Teams. We will email you a link if you wish to join and view it, alternatively, you will be able to watch a recording of it afterwards and the results will be puslished here and on our social media platforms.

Campaigning:

If you decide to run for a position, you have the exciting opportunity to create your election campaign (and no we don't mean knocking on people's doors) this is mainly a social and on-campus campaign only.

Rally your friends and come up with your campaign idea. It is important to make it KNOWN to other students (especially in other courses and on other campuses) that you are running for a position in the election. Make use of the campus and social media to spread your manifesto and what you will do for them if they elect you. This is probably the most exciting part of the election, as you can have some fun, get your friends together, and create an atmosphere (and some friendly competition) with the other candidates!

  • Posters are allowed only in designated areas,
  • A spending cap of €250 applies to promotional materials
  • Candidates must retain receipts and present them if requested by the Returning Officer;
  • MISU does not reimburse election expenses.
  • Executive Committee members must maintain autonomy, stay impartial, and not use their current position for campaigning.
  • Violations may lead to Disciplinary Committee involvement.
  • Executive Committee members running for election cannot use MISU facilities, software, branded items, or contacts for campaigning.
  • Failure results in immediate disqualification. Canvassing is permitted within college grounds; any breach incurs sanctions.
  • Pre-defined exclusion areas exist around physical polling stations during elections, with sanctions for violations.
