Upcoming Changes in 2026/2027
MISU held a Referendum on Thursday, 12th February 2026 to 'Adopt a new democratic ecosystem for MISU to replace the current failing representative democracy structures.'
The motion to amend articles 5, 8 (currently Article 19), 9 (NEW), 10 (currently Article 10. Executive Committee), and 11-20 of the MISU Constitution to adopt a new democratic ecosystem for MISU to replace the current representative democracy structures was carried and the new changes will come into effect on 15 June 2026.

Union General Meetings (UGM)
The Union General Meeting (UGM) is the supreme governing body of MISU and it is open to all MIC students, across both campuses, to attend.
It meets twice a semester and all MIC students have a vote at Union General Meetings.

It is at a Union General Meeting that the Executive Committee give reports on their work and the student body has the power to mandate Union Council and the Executive Committee. The student body can give feedback to the Executive Committee and task the officers to work on particular topics and issues.
A UGM is chaired by the Union Council Chairperson, the minutes are taken by the Union Council Secretary and there must be at least 5% of the Union‘s membership (MIC Student Body) at the UGM for it to be quorum. Without quorum at UGM, any issues or motions that require a vote cannot be carried.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held at the end of each academic year and is a meeting of all the members of MISU (MIC Student Body).
The purpose for an AGM is to wrap up the academic year and provide an overview of MISU's standing at the end of the year.

Financial Position of the Union
The AGM is chaired by the MISU President, the minutes are taken by one of the Vice-Presidents and there must be at least 5% of the Union‘s membership (MIC Student Body) at the AGM for it to be quorum.
The Annual General Meeting for 2025/26 took place on Tuesday, 21st April 2026 at 5:00pm.
