In general, the SAF is designed to support students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds with ongoing needs for financial support and provide emergency financial assistance for other students. The SAF is available to assist students who are unable to meet costs associated with day-to-day participation in higher education, such as rent, travel, college materials, and childcare.
A student does not have to be in receipt of a SUSI grant to be eligible to receive funding from SAF.
Students on full or part-time courses leading to a higher education award at levels 6 to10 of the national framework of qualifications are eligible to apply for SAF. Ph.D. students are eligible to apply for the SAF during the first four years of their studies.
Please note that the Student Assistance Fund is limited and under Government, guidelines cannot be used for the purpose of the Student Contribution charge, Tuition Fees, or student loans.
