ICT Services at MIC are moving from SMS based Multi Factor Authentication to the Microsoft Authenticator application. From the 23rd of June, users will no longer have the option to receive SMS messages to authenticate logins to their MIC account.
You will need to download the authenticator app on your device to register that device for MFA.
If you already have the authenticator app set up for MFA, you can ignore this information.
If you haven’t set up the authenticator app for MFA before now, you can follow these instructions:
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone
- Go to http://www.office.com, preferably on a laptop/computer or other device and log in with your MIC credentials.
- Authenticate via SMS as normal.
- Go to the security info page at https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Click the plus icon with “Add Sign-in Method” and choose the method “Microsoft Authenticator
- Click “Next” twice
- A QR code will appear on the browser you started with
- You can now scan it using the Authenticator App on your phone
