Award for Excellence 2019

Applications for the MIC Foundation and MISU Award for Excellence 2019 are now open. Mary Immaculate College is very fortunate to have very talented and dedicated students who excel in many areas but whose achievements are not always sufficiently celebrated. The MIC Foundation, together with MISU, is offering a number of bursaries to our undergraduate students, under the banner of the Award for Excellence.

These awards are to give recognition to undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in any area of endeavour, including areas such as music, arts and sport (with the exception of the GAA as College & Munster Council bursaries are already available in this area) whilst maintaining a commitment to their academic studies.

The value of each award is €500

The Award for Excellence is open to all current undergraduate students who have successfully completed the first year of their studies.

The completed application form will need to be uploaded together with a written reference from one external person e.g. teacher/coach/national governing body/community leader plus a written reference confirming a commitment to to your academic studies from a member of MIC staff.

Link to online application here.

Referendum for Online Voting

There will be a referendum to amend the MISU Constitution on Thursday 22nd November (Week 11). Students will be asked if they agree or disagree with introducing online voting in MISU elections, by-elections and referenda. The current system for voting is paper ballots and long distance voting, and the proposal is to use online voting going forward, with the provision for paper ballot/long distance voted if needed. By changing Article 11.5 Voting, Articles 11.6 Long Distance Voting and 11.7 Counting will be amended also.

The current MISU Constitution can be found here, the sections which are proposed to change are pages 22 - 24.

The proposed Articles 11.5, 11.6 and 11.7 can be read here. The proposed accompanying schedule to the MISU Constitution, Schedule 7 is also available to read here.

Printouts of the current Constitution, proposed Articles and proposed schedule to the MISU Constitution can be collected from MISU Reception.

Polling stations will be open on the Limerick campus between 8.30am and 6.30pm and on the Thurles campus between 11am and 1pm. Students votes are vital

Announcement from MISU

"In the event of no Union members running for a sabbatical position, Union Council can nominate a non-Union person to run for the post in a subsequent by-election, subject to seeking advice from the Advisory Committee" - Article 11.3.6, MISU Constitution. As no members of Mary I Students’ Union put themselves forward to run for the position of Vice-President in the
By-Election which was scheduled to take place on Thursday 4th October, Union Council, at their meeting on 10.10.2018, implemented Article 11.3.6 of the MISU Constitution and they nominated Alison Dervan (former MISU Vice-President 2015/2016) to stand in a by-election for MISU Vice-President for the 2018/2019 Academic Year.
