Referendum for Online Voting

There will be a referendum to amend the MISU Constitution on Thursday 22nd November (Week 11). Students will be asked if they agree or disagree with introducing online voting in MISU elections, by-elections and referenda. The current system for voting is paper ballots and long distance voting, and the proposal is to use online voting going forward, with the provision for paper ballot/long distance voted if needed. By changing Article 11.5 Voting, Articles 11.6 Long Distance Voting and 11.7 Counting will be amended also.

The current MISU Constitution can be found here, the sections which are proposed to change are pages 22 - 24.

Printouts of the current Constitution, proposed Articles and proposed schedule to the MISU Constitution can be collected from MISU Reception.

Polling stations will be open on the Limerick campus between 8.30am and 6.30pm and on the Thurles campus between 11am and 1pm. Students votes are vital

Announcement from MISU

"In the event of no Union members running for a sabbatical position, Union Council can nominate a non-Union person to run for the post in a subsequent by-election, subject to seeking advice from the Advisory Committee" - Article 11.3.6, MISU Constitution. As no members of Mary I Students’ Union put themselves forward to run for the position of Vice-President in the
By-Election which was scheduled to take place on Thursday 4th October, Union Council, at their meeting on 10.10.2018, implemented Article 11.3.6 of the MISU Constitution and they nominated Alison Dervan (former MISU Vice-President 2015/2016) to stand in a by-election for MISU Vice-President for the 2018/2019 Academic Year. This By-Election will take place on Tuesday 23rd October 2018 on both the Limerick and Thurles Campuses.

By-Election for Vice President

As the position of MISU Vice-President is now vacant, a By-Election will take place for Vice-President. As approved by Union Council, nominations for the position of Vice President will open on Friday 28th of September and close on Tuesday 2nd of October at 12pm.

CoderDojo is on a mission to create a world where every child has the opportunity to learn how to be creative with technology in fun, informal spaces.

Many Dojos around the world are oversubscribed, with young people who wish to unable to get a spot. To work towards this goal we are launching our first ever FutureLearn course “Start a CoderDojo” on Monday April 23rd. This training course is open and free for absolutely everyone all over the world. Anyone who has ever considered volunteering, or starting a coding club in their community should sign up to be guided on this journey with a network of like minded people.

This course will take place for two hours, each week over three weeks. The aim is to:
- Build your confidence and knowledge in order to to start a Dojo
- Discover resources and support that will help you with the process
- See what a Dojo looks like in action
- Take a look at templates for a typical Dojo session and more!

This course is available for free to anyone who is interested.
