MISU Referendum: how to vote off campus

If you are off campus or on placement on Thursday 22nd November, you can still vote in the Referendum to introduce online voting. To request a long distance ballot:

 

1. Email Andrew, the MISU Returning Officer on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , using your Student Email, before 5.30pm on Wednesday 21st November.

2. You will receive a ballot by email on the day of voting.

3. Return your ballot using your Student Email before 6.30pm on Thursday 22nd November.

Referendum for Online Voting

There will be a referendum to amend the MISU Constitution on Thursday 22nd November (Week 11). Students will be asked if they agree or disagree with introducing online voting in MISU elections, by-elections and referenda. The current system for voting is paper ballots and long distance voting, and the proposal is to use online voting going forward, with the provision for paper ballot/long distance voted if needed. By changing Article 11.5 Voting, Articles 11.6 Long Distance Voting and 11.7 Counting will be amended also.

The current MISU Constitution can be found here, the sections which are proposed to change are pages 22 - 24.

Printouts of the current Constitution, proposed Articles and proposed schedule to the MISU Constitution can be collected from MISU Reception.

Polling stations will be open on the Limerick campus between 8.30am and 6.30pm and on the Thurles campus between 11am and 1pm. Students votes are vital

Announcement from MISU

"In the event of no Union members running for a sabbatical position, Union Council can nominate a non-Union person to run for the post in a subsequent by-election, subject to seeking advice from the Advisory Committee" - Article 11.3.6, MISU Constitution. As no members of Mary I Students’ Union put themselves forward to run for the position of Vice-President in the
By-Election which was scheduled to take place on Thursday 4th October, Union Council, at their meeting on 10.10.2018, implemented Article 11.3.6 of the MISU Constitution and they nominated Alison Dervan (former MISU Vice-President 2015/2016) to stand in a by-election for MISU Vice-President for the 2018/2019 Academic Year. This By-Election will take place on Tuesday 23rd October 2018 on both the Limerick and Thurles Campuses.

STARCAMP are currently seeking STARCAMP SUMMER CAMP leaders to work with us nationwide for 2018.

Are you a fully qualified primary or post-primary teacher or a trainee with an interest in performance? Are you a dance, drama or singing instructor that would like to put your talents to good use or are you currently studying any of these subjects? Are you a qualified SNA or do you currently work with children? Then keep reading...

STARCAMP, Ireland’s leading performing arts network will be running their award-winning performance summer camps in over 200 locations across Ireland, including Northern Ireland this summer. The camps are aimed at boys and girls aged 4-12 and run for a week from 9:30-2:30. There will be seven weeks of camps this summer.

We are looking for primary school teachers with a flair for performance, as well as looking for singing, acting and dancing coaches with experience working with children. The core ethos is about building self-esteem and confidence in children in a non-competitive environment, and is open to children with all levels of ability.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children and leaders from all over the country and gain meaningful experience in encouraging confidence and self-esteem in young children. The position would be a great addition to any CV when applying for teaching posts.

Training and Garda Vetting will be facilitated by Starcamp.

Vital ingredients for the perfect STARCAMP leader:
-Must have excellent experience in working with children.
-Must have an understanding of and passion for the performing arts.
-Must be outgoing, vivacious, fun-loving and have a zest for life!
-Must have a natural ability to make children feel special.
-Must be professional, mature and extremely responsible.
-Must take direction well and be a good listener and communicator.
-Must be available for 7-8 weeks of July and August.
-Must be available for and go through thorough STARCAMP training and will be Garda Vetted.

STARCAMP Summer camp staff have been offered many opportunities with us throughout the years. Some have sang on Charity singles that we have released into the charts, some have done extra work with us in RTE & TV3 and others have come on board to form part of our full time team
